What is coaching?
121 Coaching with Ruth Farenga, Founder of Mindful Pathway is for leaders who want to create space to lead effectively. They may be experiencing anxiety due to personal distress or stepping up into a new role. They want to perform better at work and enjoy their down-time more fully, creating more balance inside and outside of work.

What's the approach?
I coach leaders to enable clarity of mind. My philosophy is to help facilitate clients’ thinking to identify what fulfilment means to them and take subsequent action to achieve this in their day to day lives. I often support leaders in businesses who are experiencing anxiety due to personal distress or becoming overly-driven. Individuals are supported to be motivated to move their career or business forward, and to be the best leader they can be, relating to others in the most effective way.
I provide a reflective space and incorporate models and techniques to help new perspectives arise and for people to see possibility and ultimately a vision amidst sometimes ‘foggy’ or distracted times. My coaching is for people who want to move forward but can’t currently see how. I enable them to create this path forward.
Mindfulness training is an optional part of our work together, with benefits to cognitive functioning that are backed by neuroscience. I can provide guidance on how to meditate, coupled with home practice meditations and reflective space to develop the practice. This results in increased self-awareness, focus and self-compassion.
Why do I do this?
I became a professionally-qualified Coach and Mindfulness Teacher because these two methods helped me lift myself out of a period of work-related anxiety. While working in the corporate sector, I had lost the ability to think straight and to lead clearly. I put excessive pressure on myself and my head was dominated by anxiety and insomnia. I’m a no-fluff person and so I was relieved to eventually discover Mindfulness, an evidence-based practice underpinned by practical skills to live by each day. This is what motivates me: guiding others to develop a practice that works for them–one that is sustainable for life.
I went on to train as a coach in order to help facilitate the growth of leaders in a 121 setting. My coaching forms a reflective space to enable you as the client to do your best thinking. In this way, it is allowing you to create space to lead effectively.
What are my credentials?
I have a Diploma in Transformational Coaching accredited by the European Coaching and Mentoring Council (EMCC). This was the result of a 15-month process that included 50 hours of accredited coaching, written and assessed submissions on theory and practice. I am also part of an ongoing supervision programme that involves 121 support to improve my practice.
I also have a Diploma in Mindfulness Teaching and do my ongoing CPD with Oxford University where my supervisor is based.
My background is in the corporate sector in technology with Intel Corporation and Pearson Education, and in the third sector with Women in Science and Engineering.
What’s the format?
Coaching takes place either at my consulting room in my home in St Albans or in our rented rooms near Chancery Lane in London or online via video call internationally. If meeting in person, I find clients respond better when they are outside of their own work environment. Face-to-face sessions are usually 90 mins and online sessions are usually 60 mins.
